Hi, My name is Joe and I am a dad in Brooklyn.
About six months ago, I started something called Brooklyn Stroll Club. It began as an attempt to make some dad friends because becoming a father changed me in the best way. Honestly, I don’t even know who I was before my son arrived. Fatherhood brought something out of me that I never knew existed.
Watching how my wife showed up during the birthing process and how beautifully she’s embraced motherhood—her strength pushed me to grow. I knew I wanted to be the kind of partner and parent who was truly in it. And I knew I needed other dads to walk alongside while figuring it all out.
So it started small. I organized a low-key meetup in McCarren Park in Williamsburg via TikTok. Not knowing if anyone would actually show up, I brought coffee and donuts for whoever might come through. To my surprise, over a 20 dads arrived with their kids just to hang out.
Then, as winter came, we moved the meet-up indoors. Nothing crazy. Just conversation. Just showing up. A handful of dads, some brand new, some seasoned, all trying to navigate diapers, sleep routines, partnership, work, identity—the whole thing.
It’s been incredible to watch Brooklyn Stroll Club grow from a meet-up in the grass at a local park to what it is today. We’ve received press coverage in People Magazine and Good Morning America, which was amazing, and we've been able to give away strollers, clothing, and more to dads for their kids. Since then, our community has grown to over 1,050 dads on our Discord server, with monthly meetups—both in-person and virtual—where fathers are finding community, building confidence with their children, and connecting with brands and resources that help them be the best dads they can be.
That’s what Brooklyn Stroll Club is. It’s not a class. It’s a living, breathing community, built on the belief that fatherhood shouldn’t be silent. A space to talk about what we’re going through. A reminder that we need each other. It’s best described as a modern fatherhood experience, one that isn’t defined by what we may have missed out on or lacked in some communities.
And this Substack? This is where that voice lives. Not just mine—ours.
This is a place for dads to share stories, thoughts, tools, knowledge, questions, joy, frustration, and growth. A living record of what this generation of fathers is feeling and looking to build. It's strengthening and rewriting the story of modern fatherhood in real time.
What’s been amazing is watching the club evolve. We’ve added more structure. Partnered with local spots for events. Even collaborated with brands that share our values and dropped some cool merch, too.
Now? We’re dreaming bigger. If I had to imagine the future of the club, maybe one day it evolves into an app. Maybe it becomes a digital space—like an Uber for dads everywhere—helping them find their people at the push of a button. But right now, we’re focused on being present. And on what we’re building and creating memories with our children and families.
To the dads who’ve already joined: thank you. For your time, your stories, your jokes, and your honesty. You’ve made this what it is.
To the dads who haven’t yet—pull up. We’re here for you. You’re not alone. And this season of life? It’s better when you don’t go through it solo.
But before anything else, we’re building trust—one conversation at a time.
So if you’re a dad, or about to become one you’re invited. If you’re not sure what you’re doing. Perfect. None of us are. If you want to talk, learn, build, be seen, welcome.
We’ve started to say that "fatherhood is bigger than Brooklyn" because it’s everywhere. And we’re grateful for this community that’s growing one step at a time.
Thanks for being here.
— Joe
